96th Regiment of Foot

The regiment distinguished itself even further, when Private Antoine Lutz left the ranks under his own initiative to seize the colour of the 21st Demi Brigade Legère, which had been captured previously by the 42nd Royal Highland Regiment (later The Black Watch) before being recaptured during the cavalry attack.

Fife and Forfar Yeomanry

They were dismounted and eventually became The 14th (FFY) Battalion, of The Black Watch As part of the 74th (Yeomanry) Division they served in Egypt and Palestine in 1917 and 1918 before being moving to France in 1918.

Samuel McGaw

McGaw was about 36 years old, and a lance-sergeant in the 42nd Regiment of Foot (later The Black Watch Royal Highlanders), British Army during the First Ashanti Expedition when the following deed took place for which he was awarded the VC.

Tai Po Tsai

Among some of the army units stationed there were The Black Watch, The Duke of Edinburgh's Royal Regiment and the Royal Cheshire regiments.
