The Capitols

It has been used in Cool Whip commercials (lyrics changed from "cool jerk" to "cool whip") and for many movie soundtracks, including More American Graffiti (1979), Night and the City (1992), Home Alone 2: Lost in New York (1992), and Calendar Girl (1993).

WAAM

Ollie McLaughlin, a black DJ on WHRV, is credited for helping to discover early 1960s rocker and Michigan native Del Shannon, and, after he left the station in 1961, helped launch the careers of several other Michigan artists, including Barbara Lewis, The Capitols, and Deon Jackson.


Golden World Records

Besides the following discography, the studio's national hits included "Oh How Happy" by Livonia, Michigan's Shades of Blue and "Cool Jerk" by the Capitols.

The Outsiders Album 2

Cool Jerk – which is, incidentally, one of the few covers recorded by the Go-Go's – was a popular pop and R&B hit that was released by the Capitols in July 1966, again within weeks of the release of this album.
