Jack Brokensha

Brokensha moved to Detroit, Michigan, where he was hired by Berry Gordy of Motown Records as a percussionist, becoming one of the few white members of Motown's Hitsville U.S.A. recording studio's house band, The Funk Brothers.

Citing Dr. Dre, Quincy Jones, Raphael Saadiq and The Funk Brothers as his signature production inspirations his musical influences range from German composers Ludwig van Beethoven, Jean Sibelius, and Johann Sebastian Bach to Jazz icons Dizzy Gillespie and Miles Davis all the way to Academy Award winning hip hop group Three 6 Mafia and Houston rapper, Scarface.

James Jamerson

According to fellow Funk Brothers in the 2002 documentary Standing in the Shadows of Motown, Gaye was desperate to have Jamerson play on "What's Going On", and went to several bars to find the bassist.
