3 unusual facts about The Happy Ending

Ned Austin

Austin was in several films, including Annie Hall and The Happy Ending, and some regional movies and industrial films, and he played the bridgemaster in Stephen King's directorial debut, Maximum Overdrive, where he introduced the phrase, "Can't you see we've got a situation here?!".

Say Hello to Yesterday

The original title was to have been Whatever Happened to Happy Endings? but Cinerama didn't want to use this title, partly because Jean Simmons had just starred in, and been Academy award nominated for, the similarly titled The Happy Ending, and partly because Cinerama feared that because Whatever Happened to Baby Jane? was a film of the era and there was a series of 'Whatever Happened...' films, they might be sued by other companies.

The Happy Ending

The film was nominated for Academy Awards for Best Actress in a Leading Role, (Jean Simmons) and Best Music, Song (Michel Legrand, Alan Bergman and Marilyn Bergman, for "What Are You Doing the Rest of Your Life?").

See All Her Faces

In 2002, Mercury Records/Universal Music UK released See All Her Faces in its entirety on CD for the first time, then also including three bonus tracks; two further recordings from the shelved Faithful album with Jeff Barry and also Springfield's interpretation of "What Are You Doing the Rest of Your Life?", written by Alan & Marilyn Bergman and Michel Legrand for the 1969 film The Happy Ending.
