BBC Radio 4 comedy programme The Harpoon, a show lampooning boys' magazines from Britain's Empire days of the 20th century, also used the piece as its opening theme—which is harshly interrupted mid-stanza by a page-turn.

The Harpoon

The Harpoon was a BBC Radio 4 series broadcast between 1991 and 1994, written by Julian Dutton and Peter Baynham.

The humour dealt with the anachronistic, politically incorrect attitudes towards education, class, sex, race, war, etc. and patronising style represented by such publications as Boy's Own Paper.


Jonathan James-Moore

He eventually became Head of Light Entertainment, where he oversaw many of the most successful comedy series of the 1990s, including On the Hour, Knowing Me, Knowing You, Lee and Herring, The Harpoon, Harry Hill's Fruit Corner, and The League of Gentlemen.
