Many of his roles were uncredited parts in Western movies, but he also appeared in major films including Meet John Doe, The Little Foxes, The Magnificent Ambersons, and the Marx Brothers film Yours for the Asking.
She has appeared extensively at the Intiman Theatre where she has appeared in Aristocrats, Faith Healer, Angels in America, The Little Foxes, The Last Night of Ballyhoo and The Kentucky Cycle.
She played the part of Regina Hubbard in Another Part of the Forest (a 1948 prequel to The Little Foxes), and achieved success playing a mermaid in Mr. Peabody and the Mermaid.
Kenneth Tynan asserted that, "...(Davis) has done nothing better since The Little Foxes."
In his ten years with Shumlin, he helped produce a number of Lillian Hellman's plays, including The Children's Hour (1934), The Little Foxes (1939), and Watch on the Rhine (1942), and The Lark (1952), Hellman's English-language version of the play L'Alouette by Jean Anouilh.
