Jet Harris released the theme as a single in 1963, Sweet covered the theme song on the UK version of their album Desolation Boulevard, and Barry Adamson released a cover version on his 1988 album Moss Side Story.
The following year, at age 28, he appeared as Piggy in his off Broadway debut in The Man with the Golden Arm.

The album was meant to be a portrait of jazz in cinema history, a way to chronicle the evolution of jazz score from the late 1940s to present day, and features highly influential themes from classics like Anatomy of a Murder, Taxi Driver and seminal noir The Man With the Golden Arm.
"Frankie Machine" is the name of the card-dealing, heroin-addicted protagonist in Nelson Algren's 1949 novel, The Man With the Golden Arm, a role played by Frank Sinatra in the 1955 film directed by Otto Preminger.
