The Telescopes

Formed in 1987 by Stephen Lawrie, The Telescopes are an English noise, space rock, dream pop and psychedelic band, drawing influence from artists such as Suicide, The Velvet Underground and The 13th Floor Elevators.

The consensus for the usage of the telescopes is to follow the NASA Astronomy and Astrophysics Decadal Survey of 2010, which lists the Wide Field Infrared Survey Telescope (WFIRST) as its highest priority.

Scientists plan to use one of the telescopes as the basis for an improved version of the proposed Wide Field Infrared Survey Telescope (WFIRST).

Lincoln Near-Earth Asteroid Research

Data recorded by the telescopes is sent to a Lincoln Laboratory facility at Hanscom Air Force Base in Lexington, Massachusetts for processing.

Very Large Telescope

One of the large mirrors of the telescopes was the subject of an episode of the National Geographic Channel's reality series World's Toughest Fixes, where a crew of engineers removed and transported the mirror to be cleaned and re-coated with aluminium.
