Shure often also guest hosts on The Young Turks and was the host of that network's online 2012 election show, twenTYTwelve. Shure was formerly the host of Current TV's The War Room with Michael Shure, a progressive political commentary program that aired live Monday through Thursday.

In February 2013 he took over as host for former Michigan governor Jennifer Granholm and the show, previously called "The War Room With Jennifer Granholm" became The War Room with Michael Shure until August 2013 when the show was ended with the rest of Current's live programming in preparation of the network's transition to Al Jazeera America.

Current TV President David Bohrman said he, CEO Joel Hyatt and founder Al Gore first met Granholm in 2011 and were "immediately struck" by her television presence.

After signing with Current, Granholm also appeared as a contributor on the network's Politically Direct 2012 coverage of Republican presidential debates and primaries.
