The chief four Ammaveedus are the Arumana, Vadasseri, Thiruvattar and Nagercoil Ammaveedus.

Other Ammaveedus of prominence were Vadasseri Ammaveedu, Nagercoil Ammaveedu, Thanjavur Ammaveedu, Thiruvattar Ammaveedu, Puthumana Ammaveedu (of Ravi Varman Thampi) etc., all named after the villages from where the original Ammachis came.
It is located at Attoor near Thiruvattar in SH-90, 5 km North-east of Marthandam and 25 km North-west of Nagercoil, mid-way between Marthandam and Kulasekaram.
