Thomas Duffus Hardy pointed out that the compilation must have been made after the middle of the fourteenth century, as it contains many extracts from Ralph Higden, who is referred to, 'and that there is reason to believe that it was based on a previous compilation, made probably by a person connected with the diocese of Norwich.'

Thomas Duffus Hardy

He edited William of Malmesbury's De gestis regum anglorum (2 vols., 1840); he continued and corrected John Le Neve's Fasti ecclesiae Anglicanae (3 vols., Oxford, 1854); and with CT Martin he edited and translated L'Estorie des Engles of Geoffrey Gaimar (1888–1889).

John Brancastre

He was included among the keepers of the great seal by Thomas Duffus Hardy, under the dates of 1203 and 1205; but Edward Foss gave reasons for believing that the subscriptions to charters supposed to be attached by him as keeper were only affixed in the capacity of a deputy, or a clerk in the exchequer or in the chancery.
