Patrick Fitzmaurice

Patrick Fitzmaurice, seventeenth Lord Kerry and Baron Lixnaw (1551?–1600), was the son and heir of Thomas Fitzmaurice, 16th Baron Kerry.

Thomas Fitzmaurice, 16th Baron Kerry

He is said to have sat in the parliament of 1556, and in March 1567 he was knighted by Sir Henry Sidney.

He married, first Margaret, "the fair", second daughter of James FitzJohn, 14th Earl of Desmond (died 1563), by whom he had Patrick Fitzmaurice, who became the 17th Baron Kerry, Edmund, killed at Kinsale, Robert, slain in the isles of Arran, and one daughter; secondly, Catherine, only daughter and heir of Teige MacCarthy Môr; thirdly, Penelope, daughter of Sir Donald O'Brien, brother of Conor, third earl of Thomond.

Their fourth son, Alexander Temple FitzMaurice, became a Groom of the Bedchamber in 1867 and later served in the Yeomanry Cavalry.


Charles Wilmot, 1st Viscount Wilmot

In July 1600 Wilmot was left by Carew in command of Carrigafoyle Castle on the River Shannon; shortly afterwards he was given command of a force of 1,050-foot and fifty horse, with which in October he defeated Thomas Fitzmaurice, 18th Baron Kerry, and in November captured Listowel Castle after sixteen days' siege.
