Following the Battle of Burnt Corn and the subsequent Fort Mims massacre, General Ferdinand Claiborne, under the orders of General Thomas Flournoy, began attempting to round-up troops to attack the Red Stick Creeks.
He was an unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1848 to the Thirty-first Congress and for election in 1850 to the Thirty-second Congress.
