Thomas Sutpen is the focal character of William Faulkner's 1936 novel Absalom, Absalom! Sutpen arrives in Faulkner's imaginary Yoknapatawpha County in Mississippi in the 1830s and established a 100 square mile (260 kmĀ²) plantation, Sutpen's Hundred, in an attempt to create his own personal dynasty.

The short story "Wash", which was later incorporated into the seventh chapter of Absalom, Absalom!, focuses on the death of Thomas Sutpen.
