Sheridan Lake is accessible via U.S. Route 385 north from Hill City, South Dakota and Three Forks or south from Lead and Deadwood, or a scenic route via Sheridan Lake Drive (a paved county highway) from Rapid City.

The regiment moved to Parkersburg, Virginia, May 30, then to Burning Springs, Elizabethtown, and to Three Forks.
In 1917, Moore-Keppel formed a coal division, the Three Forks Coal Company, which operated a mine near Cassity, West Virginia that also utilized the logging railroad as a means to haul coal.
Shortly after passing through the Three Forks community, KY 101 passes into Allen County.
