3 unusual facts about Tiergarten


Carillon in Berlin-Tiergarten

The carillon was given to the city by Daimler-Benz AG under CEO Edzard Reuter in 1987 on the occasion of Berlin's 750th birthday.

Ebertstraße

As one heads south down Ebertstraße, the Tiergarten, a large forested park, is to one's right, and the new United States Embassy is being built to the left.

Hani Azer

Hani Azer headed the construction of the tunnel beneath Berlin's Tiergarten in 1994.


Lainzer Tiergarten

The Lainzer Tiergarten is located mostly in Vienna's 13th district, with a small adjacent portion lying in Laab im Walde, Lower Austria.

Siegesallee

About 750 m in length, it ran northwards through the Tiergarten park from Kemperplatz (an intersection of roads on the southern edge of the park near Potsdamer Platz), to Königsplatz, in which stood the Berlin Victory Column, in its original position in front of the Reichstag (German Parliament building).

Sternklang

The first performance took place from 8:30 to 11:30pm on 5 June 1971, in the Englischer Garten of the Tiergarten, Berlin, near the Akademie der Künste (Stockhausen 1978, 170, 174).

Straße des 17. Juni

Before 1953, the street was called Charlottenburger Chaussee, because it ran from the old city center (Berlin-Mitte) to the borough of Charlottenburg through the Tiergarten ("Animal garden").
