Among finalists from Argentina, Colombia, India, Lithuania, Mexico, Nigeria, the Philippines and Poland, the inaugural IYPY finalists went on a tour of the UK publishing industry to London, Cambridge, Tiptree, Newcastle, Edinburgh, Aberystwyth and Hay-on-Wye.
The plant was brought to Britain in the 1900s by C.J. Wilkin, a member of the family who own the Wilkin & Sons conserve manufacturing company in Tiptree, Essex, following a visit to the United States where the plant grew wild.
Most of the district is the Dengie peninsula but a significant area is also the area above the Blackwater Estuary, bounded by the River Blackwater to the west until near Kelvedon, the boundary then continues south of Tiptree to the Salcott inlet on the Blackwater Estuary.
Species found on the heath include Cross Leaved Heather Erica tetralix, Bell Heather Erica cinerea and Ling.
Established in 1933, the club was absorbed into Maldon Town in 2010, creating Maldon & Tiptree.
Webb was an Independent (resident's association) councillor for the Tiptree ward of Colchester Borough Council for 30 years.

In addition to its inclusion in the various printings of The New Atlantis and Other Novellas of Science Fiction, the story also appeared in Star Songs of an Old Primate (first published 1978) and Her Smoke Rose Up Forever (first published 1990), both of which are collections of Tiptree's short fiction.
The James Tiptree Jr. story "The Girl Who Was Plugged In" was made into an episode of the short-lived SCI FI Channel anthology series Welcome to Paradox.
The village lies about 6 miles 10 km) from Maldon and 5 miles (8 km) from Tiptree and lies on the back road between Goldhanger and the Maldon to Colchester road.
