1140: Toba Sōjō – Japanese astronomer and artist-monk, said to be the artist of the famous picture scroll Chōjū-giga (born 1053)
Some think that Toba Sōjō created the scrolls; however, it is hard to verify this.
Toba-e is given its name because it is stylistically based on works which have been attributed to a priest from the 12th century, Toba Sōjō.
