Tokkō (特高), short for Tokubetsu Kōtō Keisatsu (literally: "Special Higher Police"), the Japanese equivalent of the Nazi gestapo secret police

Tokubetsu Kōtō Keisatsu

Its main function was as a civilian counterpart to the military's Kempeitai and Tokkeitai, and it can be considered roughly equivalent to the Federal Bureau of Investigation in the United States in terms of combining both criminal investigation and counter-espionage functions.


Genki Abe

In 1932, Abe was appointed Bureau Chief of the Tokubetsu Kōtō Keisatsu (Tokkō), the Japanese special higher police force equivalent to the American Federal Bureau of Investigation, combining both criminal investigation and counter-espionage functions.
