The manuscript has been kept for the past eight centuries in the Cathedral of Toledo, except for a fragment of eight leaves which is now in the Morgan Library & Museum in New York as MS M240.

Francisco de Comontes, a son of Iñigo de Comontes, executed in 1533 the principal retablo of the chapel of Los Reyes Nuevos in Toledo cathedral, from the design of Felipe de Vigarny.
In 1179 Queen Eleanor of England donated Alcabón to the St. Thomas Cantuariense chapel, located within the Santa Maria de Toledo cathedral, remaining so until its sale in 1482 to Gutierre de Cardenas, first Duke of Maqueda.
These warriors, together with the rest of the retreating Gothic army, sought refuge in the mountains of Asturias, where they also tried to safeguard some of the sacred relics from Toledo cathedral, the most important of which was the Holy Ark, containing a large number of relics from Jerusalem.
