It was a remake of well known Tamil movie Poove Unakkaga and the second half of the film was inspired by the Tom Shadyac's, The Nutty Professor.
Abbott became involved with the documentary I Am (2011) after director Tom Shadyac saw The Corporation (2003) and invited Abbott to work as the editor on the film.
Shortly afterward, Oedekerk again worked alongside Carrey as the project consultant for Tom Shadyac's first film Ace Ventura: Pet Detective (1994).
