On 1 December 2006, Gazprom and the city authorities announced, live on television, that Tony Kettle’s design had been chosen for the, then named, Okhta Centre in St Petersburg.

Completed ahead of schedule in 2002 and opened by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth Ⅱ, the Falkirk Wheel honours the bold vision and imagination behind the Millennium Link itself.

The Falkirk Wheel was designed to reconnect the Forth of Clyde Canal with the Union Canal lying some 35 metres below.
