He succeeded his father, his lordship Prince Mang Suum II, in 1855, and moved the capital to fortified city of Mualpi of present Tonzang tonwship of Chin State.
Tonzang echoes the name of an older Burmese settlement of the Zou community by the same name (Sim Tonzang) which still exists today.

The inhabitants of Tonzang traditionally speak a distinctive Zou dialect called Khodai.
