Northwestern University Settlement House

They modeled the house on the University Settlement model, developed by Toynbee Hall in London, even featuring designs from portions of the Jane Addams' Hull House.

Charles Robert Ashbee, son of erotomaniac Henry Spencer Ashbee, created his Guild of Handicraft whilst a resident at Toynbee Hall in the late 1880s

Edward Lockspeiser

Lockspeiser became London music critic for the Yorkshire Post in 1936; before that he concentrated on composition and conducting, founding the Toynbee Hall Orchestra in 1934.

He studied at London County Council Schools, the People’s Palace, Toynbee Hall, Central School of Art and at the LCC School of Photoengraving and Lithography at Bolt Court where he met Edmund Blampied, Robert Charles Peter and John Nicolson, all fellow etchers.
