Historian Joanne Meyerowitz documented transphobia within the gay rights movement in the mid 20th century in response to publicity surrounding the transition of Christine Jorgensen.
The organization raises ad industry awareness of the issues of homophobia and transphobia in mainstream advertising, and has created joint efforts in conjunction with the Association of National Advertisers, the American Association of Advertising Agencies, as well as New York politicians like Thomas Duane, and major advertising agency leaders such as Tony Wright, Chairman of Lowe Worldwide.
Vincent was the subject of much criticism, along with Andrew Sullivan and Camille Paglia, in Richard Goldstein's 2003 book Homocons: The Rise of the Gay Right. In this book he discusses her transphobia amongst other things.
