3 unusual facts about Transvaal Rangers


Battle of Hlobane

This month saw Wood receive much needed reinforcements in the form of Transvaal Rangers, mounted troops, a troop of German settlers and five companies of the 80th Regiment of Foot.

Battle of Kambula

Soon after dawn of 29 March, Transvaal Rangers rode out to locate the enemy impi, the cattle were put out to graze and, after some deliberation, two companies were despatched to collect firewood.

Transvaal Rangers

It served in the 4 July 1879 Battle of Ulundi - the final battle of the Anglo-Zulu War as well as the earlier battles of Hlobane and Kambula.
