Mount Lofty Botanic Garden

Amongst the native Australian flora there are tree ferns, as well as exotic cultivated plants from cool climates including Rhododendron and Magnolia and the National Species Rose Collection.

Mount Worth State Park

The wet, mountain rainforest of Mountain Ash (with at least one specimen 90 metres tall, 7 metres wide and approaching 300 years old), Blackwood and Mountain Grey Gum supports a wide variety of plants and animals, such as the tree ferns, wombat, possum, platypus, Crimson Rosella, lyrebird and many others.

It was accidentally introduced to Kew in 1853 in material surrounding trunks of tree ferns sent from Natal by Captain Garden.

Alfred National Park

The park is particularly known for occurrence of four varieties of tree ferns and of epiphytic orchids such as the orange-blossom orchid Sarcochilus falcatus and the rock orchid Dendrobium speciosum.

Epipompilus insularis

insularis females hunt, usually in sunshine for retreat-making spiders in the concealed places where female spiders retreat to, such as rolled dead leaves; hollow plant stems; flax bushes; dead rolled fronds of tree-ferns; the abandoned cocoons of the bag-moth Liothula omnivora; deserted galleries of wood-boring beetles; and even the empty hatched galls of the moth Morova subfasciata in Muehlenbeckia australis and beneath loose bark on tree trunks.

Metrosideros bartlettii

Bartlett's rātā grows to a height of up to thirty metres, usually beginning life as a hemi-epiphyte on taraire (Beilschmiedia tarairi), pūriri (Vitex lucens), rewarewa (Knightia excelsa) or tree ferns (Cyathea spp.).

Progradungula otwayensis

Webs have also been found near hollows in mountain ash (Eucalyptus regnans), the bases of tree ferns (Cyatheales), and even under bridges.

Recreational Forest Reserve of Fontinhas

The main feature of the park is its rich forest of tall species; a dense forest, its atmosphere populated by Cryptomeria, Sequoia, Picconia azorica and the local Azorean Heather, its paths lined with Azaleas (Rhododendron), tree ferns (Sphaeropteris cooperii), Agapanthus and Camelias (Camelia japonica).

Stegosaurus

Vegetation varied from river-lining forests of conifers, tree ferns, and ferns (gallery forests), to fern savannas with occasional trees such as the Araucaria-like conifer Brachyphyllum.
