Mount Barker is also famous as the place where the value of subterranean clover, Trifolium subterraneum as a fodder crop was discovered, proved and first promoted by A. W. Howard.
However, some very common sown species in SBP are Trifolium subterraneum, Trifolium incarnatum, Trifolium resupinatum, Ornithopus spp.

The surrounding grassland, which is also a cricket pitch, is notable for the clovers amongst its flora including western clover (Trifolium occidentale), suffocated clover (T. suffocatum) and subterranean clover (T. subterraneum).
