Benoist Troost (1786–1859), Dutch-born physician, publisher and community leader in Kansas City, Missouri.
On the initiative of Nicolaus Druckenmüller, he trained as a calico printer in Germany, worked at Troost's calico printing works in Mülheim and then worked at the chemical firm Roberts, Dale in Manchester.
Troost writes about the part of his life spent in the South Pacific in Getting Stoned with Savages (2006) and The Sex Lives of Cannibals (2004).
This book was followed up by Getting Stoned with Savages (2006), the further adventures of J. Maarten Troost and his wife, Sylvia.
