During World War II, Short Stirling and Avro Lancasters Squadrons were stationed at the base, and between 1959 and 1963, 107 Squadron operated three Thor nuclear missiles.
His descendant, Edmund Bedingfeld, married Margaret (died 1446), daughter and heiress of Sir Robert Tuddenham (and sister and co-heir of her brother Sir Thomas Tuddenham, executed in 1462), bringing to her husband estates including the manor of Oxburgh, near Swaffham, Norfolk.
Tuddenham began his career in weekly repertory and entertained troops during the Second World War as a member of the Army's "Stars in Battledress".
During the Wars of the Roses in the 1450s Tuddenham and his associates aligned themselves with the Lancastrian forces of Margaret of Anjou, wife of Henry VI, and at the end of 1458 Tuddenham was appointed Treasurer of the Royal Household.
