Atkyns was descended from an old Gloucestershire family that for upwards of a century leased from the dean and chapter of Gloucester the manor of Tuffley, two miles south-south-east from the cathedral city.
Routes 10 Cheltenham to Lower Tuffley, 66 between Swindon and Oxford, and 94 Cheltenham to Gloucester are operated as Stagecoach Gold services.
Tuffley Rovers F.C. is based with the ward and is an active local football team.
