unusual facts about Twente

Jan Bernard van Heek

Jan Benrnard van Heek was mostly known as a board member of Van Heek & Co as well as the before mentioned Rijksmuseum Twente to which he donated his art collection.

Daniel Majstorović

Although he played well at Twente, his time there was shrouded in controversy — in March 2005, he was cleared of a seven game Eredivisie ban for allegedly elbowing FC Groningen forward Martin Drent and in December of the same year he was involved in a training ground confrontation with team-mate Blaise Nkufo.

Guilherme Afonso

Afonso has played club-football in Switzerland for Étoile Carouge, Sion, Grasshopper, Lugano and FC Vaduz; in France for Valence; and in the Netherlands for Twente and Veendam.

Manuel Sánchez Torres

On 17 September 1978, aged 18, Torres made his league debut for Twente, in a home game against Sparta Rotterdam, scoring his first goal a few weeks later at HFC Haarlem, and ending his first season with three goals in 23 matches as the Enschede club finished in 11th position and reached the final of the Dutch Cup, lost to league champions AFC Ajax.

Salland

The most important of these waterways is of course river IJssel; others include the Zwarte Water and (Overijsselse) Vecht rivers; the Regge stream, which flows through Twente to spend its last few kilometers in Salland before ending in the Vecht near Ommen; the Schipbeek stream; and the Soestwetering stream, which merges with a number of lesser streams near Zwolle to form river Zwarte Water.

Solo Display Team

The team was established in September 1979 with the first demonstration of an RNLAF F-16 during an air show at Twente Air Base (now Enschede Airport Twente).

White horse of Kent

Indeed, continental origins of this emblem can be found from the coat of arms of Lower Saxony, the Dutch region of Twente, the House of Welf (who adapted it in the late 14th century; before then the Welf coat of arms was a golden lion on red ground) and the modern German State of North Rhine-Westphalia: the Saxon Steed.
