On July 28, 2008, Polk was announced as a volunteer assistant coach for the University of Alabama at Birmingham Blazers baseball squad.
The UAB football team was led by Garrick McGee until he resigned on Jan. 9, 2013, and currently plays its home games at 71,594-seat Legion Field.
