In the year 2000, while attending college at UCSC, guitarist and tres player Camilo Landau decided to form a band to experiment with blending Latin music and Caribbean music with other musical genres.

John Dizikes Ph.D. (born 1932) is a Professor Emeritus of American Studies at the University of California, Santa Cruz, who served as Cowell College provost and who is a recipient of the UCSC Alumni Association's Distinguished Teaching Award.
In 1972 (during Grinder's stint at UCSC) Richard Bandler, an undergraduate student of psychology, approached him for assistance in specific aspects of modeling Gestalt therapy.
He graduated from Lowell High School in Whittier, California and UCSC, with honors degrees in Politics and Community Education.
Bateson taught at UCSC, Kresge College as did Grinder, and had moved to a community on Alba Road near the Santa Cruz mountains community of Ben Lomond.
Initially built and still managed by Jim Kent, then a graduate student, and David Haussler, professor of Computer Science (now Biomolecular Engineering) at the University of California, Santa Cruz in 2000, the UCSC Genome Browser began as a resource for the distribution of the initial fruits of the Human Genome Project.
