It was Alfred Cortot who gave him the idea of composing a piano concerto during his visit to Turkey, after listening to his Quartet.

He studied piano with Isidor Philippe, and composition with Jean and Noël Gallon and Nadia Boulanger at the Paris Conservatoire and the École Normale de Musique.

Recently Anjelika Akbar, a concert pianist and a composer, performed at the Erzurum 2011 Winter Universiade preparations' gathering in Erzurum and her repertoire consisted of one of Darmar's compositions, along with the works of John Sebastian Bach, Ulvi Cemal Erkin and Ilhan Baran.
