The two platoons withdrew in February/March (not sure anymore)Operation Savannah during the Angolan Civil War In July of 1975 when 1 string of 1 Parachute Battalion were flown to Ondangwa and travel by Unimog to Ruancana on the northern border of SWA at Ruacana and Santa Clara in Angola to relieve two Portuguese communities trapped by the MPLA.
The Bullet was originally developed by the Rhodesian private firm Zambesi Coachworks Ltd of Salisbury (now Harare) to meet a requirement put by the Rhodesian Army for a low-cost mine-protected IFV mounted on a Unimog chassis capable of carrying 10 men.
1 Animal Rescue Unit (ARU): introduced in April 2011, the ARU is based on an all-terrain Unimog chassis and is fitted with a Hiab crane capable of extending up to 13.7 m and lifting weights of up to 3,250 kg.
Built on a Mercedes-Benz U1100 Unimog 416 2.5 ton light truck chassis, it consisted of an armoured hull of welded ballistic steel plate incorporating one rear and two side doors.
Vehicles commonly used include Jeep (the Chrysler and the Mitsubishi Varieties), Lada Niva, Nissan Patrol, Toyota pickup truck, Land Rover, Ford Bronco, Suzuki Samurai, International Harvester Scout and especially the Mercedes Unimog due to its portal axles and greatly increased ground clearance.
