Mary Deros is the city councillor representing Park Extension under the Union Montreal party.
He was re-elected in 2005 with 54% of the vote against the same candidate, and again in 2009 over Vision Montreal's Louise Harel and Projet Montreal's Richard Bergeron.

Formerly associated with the Union Montreal political party, he resigned on October 30, 2012 in protest against the allegations of corruption surrounding mayor Gérald Tremblay at the Charbonneau commission hearings.
During a hearing at the Charbonneau Commission on October 1, 2012, construction industry contractor Lino Zambito alleged that Tremblay's party, Union Montreal received a sum equivalent to 3% of the value of sewerage rehabilitation contracts awarded by the City of Montreal to a mafia-linked cartel.
In 2009, the Montreal Gazette reported that Tamburello and city councillor Marcel Tremblay, the mayor's brother, "were reported to have spoken on behalf of" developer Michael Rosenberg, a contributor to Union Montreal, to Canadian prime minister's press secretary Dimitri Soudas.
