Prior to 2004, the Martlet House designation had been applied to two properties: one on University Street, followed by a move in 1971 to a Mountain Street property built in 1925 by architect Robert Findlay for Alice Hallward.
At its southern end, the street forms the western boundary of the Quartier international de Montréal, with a colonnade of pillars encasing a stylized representation of the flags of the world.

There are also several notable buildings located on the southern portion of the street, including Place Ville Marie, Place Bonaventure, Telus Tower and the world headquarters of the ICAO.
