Dharmasiri Bandaranayake

The Prasada Pranama award in 1996 from the University of Sri Lanka in Colombo for his contribution to Sri Lankan Theatre and Cinema.

Mohan Lal Grero

In 1974 he entered the Katubedda Campus of the University of Sri Lanka and graduated in 1980 with a honours degree in engineering.

Turnour Prize

Notable winners of the Turnour Prize include Deshamanya C.A. Coorey, former Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Finance & Treasury, Sir Thomas De Sampayo, former Judge of the Supreme Court of Ceylon and Professor Osmund Jayaratne former President of the Colombo Campus, University of Sri Lanka.

University of Sri Lanka

The University of Sri Lanka was abolished and its six campuses were each elevated to independent, autonomous universities in their own right: University of Peradeniya, University of Colombo, University of Sri Jayewardenepura (Vidyodaya), University of Kelaniya, University of Moratuwa (Katubedda) and University of Jaffna.

The Vidyodaya University and Vidyalankara University Act No. 45 of 1958 elevated Vidyodaya Pirivena at Maligakanda and the Vidyalankara Pirivena at Kelaniya into two separate universities.
