August graduated from the University of Wittenberg, where Wolfgang Hirschbach had been entrusted the task to guide this young nobleman in his training.
The young Rauwolff studied initially at University of Wittenberg and then studied botany and medicine at two universities in southern France, University of Montpellier and University of Valence.
Thereafter, Rakovszky moved on to Bártfa/Bártfeld, now Bardejov, where he studied with noted humanist Leonard Stöckel, and later Brassó/Kronstadt, now Brasov before spending 1555-56 at the University of Wittenberg studying under Phillip Melancthon, an associate of Martin Luther.
He was the son of Hamburg pastor Jodocus Capell, and attended the University of Wittenberg, the University of Giessen earned the degree of Magister in 1656 and became Professor of Rhetoric at the Akademisches Gymnasium of Hamburg in 1660.
