Having been captured by Jean de Langeac, seneschal of Auvergne, in August 1426, he was shut up for three months in the château of Usson.
It is the setting for the 2002 documentary film To Be and to Have (French: Être et avoir), about the commune's one-room primary school.

On 9 May 1691, a French convoy reached Limerick with General Charles St. Ruth, two lieutenant-generals, d'Usson and de Tessé, and Brigadier Luttrell and Colonel Purcell, and also a considerable quantity of arms, ammunition and supplies.
