Isla del Pescado, Isla de los Pescadores or Cujiri is a hilly and rocky outcrop of land in the middle of Salar de Uyuni – a salt flat situated in the Daniel Campos Province, Tahua Municipality, Caquena Canton, Bolivia.
The film is set in the late 1920s in the small and remote mining town of Uyuni in the highlands of Bolivia, lying between a vast salt desert and towering mountains.
The crossing is frequently used by tourists travelling between Uyuni and San Pedro de Atacama.
Currently, two local airlines are flying regularly to the city from La Paz, Sucre and Rurrenabaque: Amazonas and Transporte Aéreo Militar.
