During its first year, the Academy numbered 15 members; Uzeyir Hajibeyov and Samad Vurgun among them.
In 1920, Azerbaijani composer Uzeyir Hajibeyov began a movement aimed at propagating classical music among the people.
Main roles in classic Azerbaijani films (such Vali in Arshin Mal Alan (1945); Balaoglan in the 1956 screen version of Uzeyir Hajibeyov's musical comedy O olmasin, bu olsun ("Not That One, Then This One"); Zulumov in Ahmad haradadir? ("Where is Ahmad?", 1965), etc.
International Music Festival devoted to Uzeyir Hajibeyov's creativity-is held in September, since 2009, in Azerbaijan.
It was created in 1931, on the initiative of Uzeyir Hajibeyov, founder of professional Azerbaijani music, according to principles of the Symphony Orchestra.
Creative interests of the sculptor were multi-sided, which can be seen in his later works—images of Huseynbala Aliyev, Khidir Mustafayev (heroes of the USSR, poet Samad Vurgun, composers Uzeyir Hajibeyov and Asaf Zeynally, historical portraits of Koroghlu, Javanshir, Babek).
Among portraits of Azerbaijani people, there are those of Uzeyir Hajibeyov, Samad Vurgun, Mirza Fatali Akhundov and Farhad Badalbeyli.
