After assuming office of the Head-Granthi in 1721, Bhai Mani Singh sent invitations to both parties to assemble on the Vaisakhi occasion.
From the 1970s the Handsworth Carnival (now removed to Perry Park, Perry Barr, as Birmingham International Carnival, having been said by the acting Head of Parks to have "outgrown Handsworth Park") and later the festival of Vaisakhi.
The majority of programmes were based locally such as talent show Manoranjan, news show Leicestershire In Focus and coverage of religious events in the city such as the Diwali celebrations on Belgrave Road (also known as the Golden Mile) and Melton Road which are the biggest Diwali celebrations outside India and Vaisakhi's Nagar Kirtan.
The local Sikh community in Vancouver, Abbotsford and Surrey, British Columbia, Canada holds its annual Vaisakhi celebrations in the April long weekend, which often includes a Nagar Kirtan (parade) which an estimated 200,000 people attend.
In 2010 the Palace began a series of Community Celebrations organised with local people to celebrate yearly landmarks, including events for Chinese New Year, Vaisakhi, Eid, Black History Month and Diwali.
