In May 2009 he took charge from Veerappa Moily as Chairman of the Media Department and Head Spokesperson of Congress in addition to serving as the party General Secretary.
The Bill titled The Judges Declaration of Assets and Liabilities Bill, 2009 was attempted to be introduced in Rajya Sabha by Justice Minister M. Veerappa Moily on 3 August 2009.
Power Minister Veerappa Moily said that transmission grids will be independently audited in three months to ensure that the grids are fail-safe.
His funeral was attended by Karnataka Congress leaders such as Veerappa Moily, Janardhana Poojary, B. Ramanath Rai, former ministers B. Nagaraja Shetty and B A Moideen, former MP Vinaykumar Sorake, local Congress leaders Ivan D'Souza and Naveen D'Souza among others.
