-- Do you mean that Garmana, etc., influenced Metsatöll? or that Garmana, etc., have been influenced by the same sources that Metsatöll have?>The band has been influenced by many musical groups along with folk units Garmana, Stille Volk and Estonian folk/classical music composer Veljo Tormis.<-->The name "Metsatöll" is an ancient Estonian euphemism for wolf, which is reflected in the harshness of their lyrics.
•
The name Raua needmine is a reference to a work of the same name by Veljo Tormis.
This prayer has been used by the Estonian composer Veljo Tormis in his 1974 choral work Litany to Thunder (text rendered into the Võro dialect of contemporary Southern Estonian and developed by the writer Ain Kaalep).
In the 1990s, Tormis also began to receive commissions from some of the pre-eminent a cappella groups in the West such as the King's Singers and the Hilliard Ensemble.
•
More recently, Tormis' works have been lionized in worldwide performances and several recordings by Tõnu Kaljuste and the Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir.
The choir has collaborated with Estonian composers Arvo Pärt, Veljo Tormis, Urmas Sisask and Tõnis Mägi and appeared at a number on international conferences, symposiums, festivals (La Fabbrica del Canto in Italy, Polyfollia in France, Sympaatti in Finland).
