Syed Omar was a philanthropist and his charitable acts included donating a large plot of land in Victoria Street for the purposes of a Muslim burial ground, the construction of a mosque in Bencoolen Street and Masjid Kampong Melaka, renamed Masjid Omar Kampong Melaka in his honour.
Dalton was shot dead outside the Strand Hotel, on the corner of Crown Street and William Street, East Sydney on 9 November 1929 by notorious criminal Frank Green.

The College, on the corner of Russell Street and Victoria Street adjacent to the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, was officially opened on 27 April 1927 by Her Royal Highness Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon, the Duchess of York, during a royal visit to Australia by her and her husband, His Royal Highness Prince Albert, the Duke of York, later King George VI.

It terminates in the west at Darling Harbour; in the east it joins a major intersection, Whitlam Square before continuing as a minor suburban street through East Sydney and Darlinghurst before terminating at Boundary Street.

Situated at the intersection of Victoria Street and Darlinghurst Road, this station was designed by the Government Architect, Walter Liberty Vernon, in the Federation Free Style, utilising a familiar combination of brick and sandstone.
It runs from its terminus at the intersection of Munster Terrace in North Melbourne until it reaches the Yarra River.
Victoria Street passes through the historic districts of Kampong Glam, Bugis and Bras Basah.
