The story is based on the historical characters of Bhatti and Vikramarka.
An Indian television series named Singhasan Battisi was created based on it, that aired on DD National channel, based on the story of the throne of Raja (King) Vikramaditya, which has 32 statues of angels on it.

He is identified by some scholars as Kshapanaka, one of the Navaratnas in the court of legendary Vikramaditya.
Like Vikramaditya and Akbar, he is said to have nine illustrious figures (Navaratnas) in his court: Sureshanand Barthwal, Revatram Dhasmana, Rudridutt Kimothi, Hari Dutt Nautiyal, Vasvanand Bahuguna, Shashidhar Dangwal, Sahdev Chandola, Kirit Ram Khanthola, and Hari Dutt Thapliyal.
He curses the Yaksha into a Brahmarakshas, promising his revival only upon teaching a human, the Mahabhashya.The Yaksha teaches it to Govindaswami, the father of Vararuchi, Vikramaditya, Bhatti and Bhartruhari.
After the death of the Chola king in 1070, Vikramaditya VI invaded the Tamil kingdom and installed his brother-in-law, Adhirajendra, on the throne creating conflict with Kulothunga Chola I, the powerful ruler of Vengi who sought the Chola throne for himself.
His most prominent roles to date have been the positive role of Nand, foster father of Krishna in the mythological TV series, Jai Shri Krishna (2008–2009) and an out and out negative character portrayal of Vikramaditya in Meera (TV Series) (2009–2010).
