Two ships of the Royal Navy have borne the name HMS Vimiera, an alternative spelling of Vimeiro in Portugal, site of the Battle of Vimeiro.
Vimeiro was the site of the 1808 Battle of Vimeiro, where British forces under the Duke of Wellington defeated the French, ending the first French invasion of Portugal.
Here Wellesley covered the dangerous disembarkation of Acland's brigade, and then drew up the two brigades with the rest of his army in a strong position at Vimeiro.

He was made Companion, Order of the Bath (C.B.) 4 June 1815, Knight Commander, Order of the Bath K.C.B. 19 July 1838, and had the Peninsular silver medal and Roleia and Vimeiro clasps.
