Of converso origin, Fernández de Palencia was educated at the palace of the bishop of Burgos, Paul of Burgos, a former rabbi who had been converted to Christianity by Saint Vincent Ferrer.
Between the Luis Muñoz Rivera and San Vicente streets is the Betances House, where was placed the home of Dr. Betances in Mayagüez during the cholera epidemic of 1856.

In the Church of San Nicolás, of which the Pope Callixtus III was rector before becoming Pope, in the door that overlooks to the square of San Nicolás, is remembered with tiles the prediction of Saint Vincent Ferrer according to which Alfonso de Borja would become Pope and then will canonize him.
The Baroque chapel of St. Vincent Ferrer is situated upon the village square in the centre of the village.

(This Bishop Gonzalo García de Santamaria was from a family of Catholic bishops and archbishops representing Spanish Catholicism in the councils of the first half of the 15th century. They were originally converted in Burgos in 1390 as a result of the attacks on Spanish Jews connected to the preaching of St. Vincent Ferrer.)
